‘One Word’: KLEENEX

personal branding has become

as generic as kleenex

My ‘One Word’ this week is: KLEENEX

A catch-all for “How to present yourself.”

Maybe that’s because the way we’ve been taught to do it led us here.

The problem?

That 𝑤𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑑-𝑑𝑜𝑤𝑛 𝑑𝑒𝑓𝑖𝑛𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 strips it of what makes it powerful:

𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

When branding becomes just another buzzword, people end up 𝑝𝑎𝑐𝑘𝑎𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑚𝑠𝑒𝑙𝑣𝑒𝑠 𝑡𝑜 𝑓𝑖𝑡 𝑖𝑛 𝑟𝑎𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑛 𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑜𝑢𝑡. That’s when the disconnect happens—𝑏𝑒𝑡𝑤𝑒𝑒𝑛 𝑤ℎ𝑜 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑑 ℎ𝑜𝑤 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑠ℎ𝑜𝑤 𝑢𝑝.

But personal branding isn’t the problem.

𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭, 𝐢𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐭.

Here’s the secret: It’s not about what you 𝐃𝐎. It’s about who you 𝐀𝐑𝐄.

That’s where my ‘𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝’ philosophy changes the game.

𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 – Your ‘𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝’ becomes the 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 that weaves your story into one cohesive narrative, helping people instantly understand who you are and what makes you unique.

𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 – Your ‘𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝’ acts as your 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬, guiding your decisions so that what you do is always aligned with who you are, reinforcing your unique identity.

If you’re ready to cut through the noise and distill your unique identity down to ‘𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝’, just hit “𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗹𝘆” and say ‘𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱’: 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗬, and we’ll set up a Zoom to chat.

Because personal branding isn’t about becoming something.

𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞.

As a client once said: “𝑅𝑖𝑐ℎ’𝑠 ‘𝑂𝑛𝑒 𝑊𝑜𝑟𝑑’ 𝑝ℎ𝑖𝑙𝑜𝑠𝑜𝑝ℎ𝑦 𝑖𝑠 𝑔𝑒𝑛𝑖𝑢𝑠!” — 𝐌𝐢𝐤𝐞, 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐌𝐄𝐑
