‘One Word’: BACKWARDS

My ‘One Word’ this week is: BACKWARDS

𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐝. 𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬.

For years, I defined myself by what I did:

💪🏼 DAD

💪🏼 MARATHONER,

💪🏼 MARKETER,

💪🏼 CANCER SURVIVOR.

But none of that told people who I truly was.

And let’s be honest, 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐧’𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞.

Because it didn’t communicate 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐈 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐧.

Here’s the truth:

When someone asks, “Tell me about yourself,”

they’re really asking, “𝐓𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐦𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐝𝐝 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞.”

That’s the ❤️ of personal branding.

❌ Not content.

❌ Not followers.

❌ Not viral posts.

𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐧.

And to do that, you have to start with 𝐖𝐇𝐎 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐀𝐑𝐄, your 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝 core value.

I believe three things in my 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝 branding philosophy:

1️⃣ A brand is more than a logo, it’s an emotional identity that communicates how it improves lives.

2️⃣ At the heart of every brand is one defining quality that others value most, what I call a Core Value.

3️⃣ That Core Value can be distilled into 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝.

Just look at 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐞.

They don’t sell iPhones.

They sell 𝐒𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐋𝐈𝐂𝐈𝐓𝐘, their 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝.

They win by making your life easier through effortless technology.

And that’s how 𝐘𝐎𝐔 need to think about your personal brand.

✅ Your 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝 core value becomes the 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 that ties your story together, so people instantly understand the value you bring.

🔑 That’s how you build trust.

🔑 That’s how you stand-out.

🔑 That’s how you win.

Because your personal brand isn’t what you do.

It’s who you are—𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩𝐬 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐧.
