‘One Word’: CLARITY

My ‘One Word’ this week is: CLARITY

‘𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝’ 𝐨𝐧 𝐚 𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐲𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐩.

One critical success factor of an effective 𝐓𝐄𝐃𝐱 talk?

Focus on one idea.

That idea emerges through your thesis, the single sentence that defines the entire talk.

For me, this was the hardest part of the process when preparing my 𝐓𝐄𝐃𝐱 Manhattan Beach talk in November 2022.

My writing team pushed me relentlessly to get crystal clear on why people needed to discover their ‘𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝’. One teammate even said,

“I’m already successful. I don’t need to know my ‘𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝’.”

That comment stopped me cold.

For the first time since leaving my corporate career, I had to defend my ‘𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝’ branding philosophy. Candidly, I couldn’t clearly articulate why I believed so deeply in it.

I came face to face with imposter syndrome, questioning whether my ‘𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝’ platform had any real merit.

Instead of quitting, I reached out to former clients for honest feedback. I re-listened to every podcast interview I had ever recorded. Slowly, something became obvious.

There was a common 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 I couldn’t see because I was too close to it.

Everyone said ‘𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝’: 𝐂𝐋𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐘.

That word turned doubt into conviction and intensified my mission to help entrepreneurs, business leaders, and high school and college students step into their identities through ‘𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝’.

Eventually, my thesis emerged.

“𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐞 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 ‘𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝’ 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐤𝐚 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐋𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐘.”

The day before my 𝐓𝐄𝐃𝐱 talk, my wife and I were walking through Manhattan Beach and wandered into a small craft shop. On the front table sat a bowl of sea glass, each piece etched with a word.

And staring back at me from the top of the pile was ‘𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝’.

𝐂𝐋𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐘.

I bought it for 20 dollars and carried it in my pocket on 𝐓𝐄𝐃𝐱 day.

You could say that’s expensive for a piece of glass. What I really paid for was certainty.

The certainty that the power to impact lives is already inside us. Discovering our ‘𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝’ is how we bring it into focus.

For me, that’s why I do what I do.

I help people gain 𝐂𝐋𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐘 (in ‘𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝’) so they can help others win.

That’s personal branding.

Watch my 𝐓𝐄𝐃𝐱 and then hit REPLY to discover your ‘𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝’ .

‘𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝’ will change the direction of your life. It changed mine.
